Making a will is something that, because of the reason why we need to do it, is something that is easily put off - yet can lead to huge problems with probate if you don't write one in time.
Writing a last will and testament (to use the proper phrase for it) isn't as complicated as it used to be, and there are now many places online why you can write a legal DIY one!
Title : Modern Equity Author : Harold Greville Hanbury Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Excellent if you have to learn about this!
Having been recommended this book by my law tutor, it was never going to be a fascinating read. However, the broad narrative and the easy-ish to read text meant that taking notes was fairly simple. The definitive textbook for the student of the modern law of trusts.
Title : Cases and Materials on Equity and Trusts Author : Paul Todd Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : An excellent book
This is an excellent book. I would advise that it should be used in conjunction with a "heavier-weight" textbook, such as Hanbury Martin; but as a cases and materials book, it is well worth investigating.
Title : The 60 Minute Estate Planner: Fast and Easy Illustrated Plans to Save Taxes, Avoid Probate and Maximise Inheritance Author : Sandy Kraemer Rating : 3 Stars out of 5. Summary : Complete summary, but little practical information
Sandy seems to cover all the bases, but the language is a bit too dense for the beginning reader, and there is little to no practical information about how to deal with a trust/trustee once the program is implemented. For example, how does a trust limit ones freedom of action wrt ones assets, before the first death as well as after. After reading, I still couldn't decide if I wanted a trust or not.
Title : Last Will Testament Kit Author : Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. Summary : Far too basic
I was very hopeful when I ordered this pack, but very dissapointed when it arrived. The pack comes with a CD which I was expecting to be loaded with files and information, but it only has a total of 272KB of files on the CD !!! There are three basic will-types included for each of England/Wales and Scotland. Far too basic, and I don't have a complex requirement.
