why make a will

why make a will

Information about why make a will online

Making a will is something that, because of the reason why we need to do it, is something that is easily put off - yet can lead to huge problems with probate if you don't write one in time.

Writing a last will and testament (to use the proper phrase for it) isn't as complicated as it used to be, and there are now many places online why you can write a legal DIY one!

Title : Wills and Probate ("Which?" Consumer Guides)
Author : Consumers' Association
Rating : 3 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A very good user guide, but needs updating

I bought this book for guidance on IHT and Probate. The approach adopted is very good and it takes you through an imaginary scenario from death to completion of all procedures. However, I found that the Probate rules have changed as charges are significantly lower. But it is really where the book deals with filling in IHT forms that you notice that the rules have changed significantly.

If you want a good guide to help you through the IHT maze on your own, avoiding the need for a Solicitor, then this will help. But a new edition is urgently required.

Title : Living Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney (Pocket Lawyer S.)
Author : Mark Fairweather
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Essential reading for everybody over 18 in the UK

Imagine you have become mentally incapable of managing your own finances. This could just as easily be the result of a serious accident as old age. It could happen to anyone. It could happen to you today.

Would you want strangers running your affairs? I don't think so. This book is well written in an entertaining style and makes it easy to prepare an Enduring Power of Attorney that enables you to decide who will take control.

Everybody responsible enough to write a will should also write an EPA. It is easy and, other than the cost of the book, free. Don't delay.

Title : The Sourcebook of County Court Records: A National Guide to Civil, Criminal, and Probate Records at the County and Municipal Levels Within the State Court Systems (Sourcebook of County Court Records)
Author :
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Detailed contact information, though search hints outdated

This is a thorough, easy to follow guide with accurate contact information for each court and is displayed well. Some information however is outdated as to what information is allowed public access. This arena changes frequently and the book was published in '98. I'd buy a 1999 edition in a hearbeat.

Title : Last Will Testament Kit
Author :
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A very useful product

My wife and I decided that we needed to make our wills, however morbid as this process can seem, once it is done one can rest assured that things are taken care of. It doesn't take long in comparative terms and if you can steel yourself to do it it brings a lot of peace of mind. This kit is extremely helpful and cuts the cost considerably. A reviewer has said that it is too basic - well, it must have been improved since then (which was in 2002) because we found it contained everything we needed. The instructions are clear to follow and the forms clearly set out. Will storage is also offered at a very competitive rate. All in all we found this extremely helpful in what can be a tricky task.

Title : Principles of Equity and the Law of Trusts (Principles of Law S.)
Author : Alastair Hudson
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : excellent book- recommended reading for any law student

I completely agree with the previous review. The main points are well explained and succinct. The book will help any law student to understand the difficult and complicated nature of the law of Trusts. Having had the chance to read sections of other books, I found this one by far the easiest to understand. The writing style is clear and concise without being over elaborate and confusing. It is an excellent law textbook and I highly recommend it to any law student.
